Operating Sites in the Park

On the south end of the park, Williams Knoll picnic area is convenient to set up in and near parking, but the proximity to the power lines running along the east side of the park result in an elevated noise floor, even on 20m.

The north end of the park also has an east-west power line, but the parking near the hike trailhead may be far enough away to reduce the effects of noise.

The picnic shelter (accessible by parking lot seasonally, a hike up the sledding hill in the winter) is a pretty great place to operate. AC power is available and the trees are mostly amenable to moderate length wires. The picnic tables stay pretty dry with the cover. Good even for contesting!

Overall, the park proximity to AC power infrastructure makes operating on 40m and lower a pain. A decent noise blanker might help out, but expect to have compromised receive on these bands. Make the best out of the daylight!

Park Facilities (restrooms, headquarters, entry points, etc.)

The park facilities are extremely seasonal. There are a huge number of options to support land and water recreation during the summer season and many closures for winter.

Chemical toilets are a standard provision for the winter season.

Antenna Restrictions

Cellular Phone Coverage

Generally good coverage. Might get a little weak at times, but should be reliable for most internet use.

Special Considerations

Winter trails are maintained for different activities. Respect the trail operation directions and ski/snowshoe/hike assignments based on the winter season map.

The park is year-around dog friendly. Expect to regularly see furry, four-footed friends also engaging in recreation. Including ones where they shouldn't be and/or off-leash...
